For hors les murs David Horvitz has made a digital play off of the antiquated mail-in coupon commonly found in the back of magazines. Viewers are encouraged to download the file, print it out on their printers, cut out the coupons, and mail them in for a returned work. The works offered are simple, poetic, or humorous at best. They rethink immediacy in digital and physical spaces, as well as value itself. In one, a postcard is mailed by Horvitz that simply states the distance between himself and who it is being sent to - both a distance of separation, and a distance that is traversed literally by the postcard. In another, he travels as far as he can get to and makes a photograph at this point. The distance is determined by price of purchase, which is a sliding scale. He exhausts all the money to create the said image. Similarly in another, he humorously offers ownership of all the work made at his MFA program for the same price of the program. Or, he will just think about you for a minute in silence.

David Horvitz was born in Los Angeles and is currently based in Brooklyn. His work uses an array of forms: photography, video, web, text, publications, and travel. He is currently attending Bard College's Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts. For is collaborative works with Mylinh Nguyen visit www.asdfmakes.com.
